The kids and I made
Cinnamon Christmas Ornaments today!
(Note: I would definitely NOT recommend this activity
right before naptime if you have small children!)
(ask me how I know....)
*smile*
I'd like to share the recipe with you all -
it IS a fun project to do with your kids
(heeding the above warning, of course)! :o)
I got this recipe out of the cookbook
my sweet Mom made for me when my hubby and I first got married -
it is filled with all my favorite childhood recipes.
~Cinnamon Christmas Ornaments~
1 c. cinnamon (yes, it's a lot - I buy mine in bulk)
4 Tbs. white school glue
3/4 c. water
That's it!
Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate for 2 hours
(I only chilled mine for 1 hour because...
well, because I'm impatient when it comes to stuff like this)
*smile*
Once chilled, sprinkle cinnamon on your countertop
and knead the dough until it's of uniform texture and is pliable -
(mine was pretty dry, but rolled out ok)
Roll out into an even thickness
(I did mine about 1/4 inch thick, I think)
and cut into your favorite christmas shapes -
we didn't have a lot of christmas cookie cutters,
so we ended up with quite a few heart and stars, but it's ok... :o)
Also note:
be SURE to poke holes (with a straw)
into your shapes BEFORE you bake them,
otherwise...good luck hanging your beautiful ornaments on your tree! :o)

Dry on waxed paper
OR
Bake in warm (170* - 200*) oven for 2 hours
I'm baking mine as I sit here typing.
(see above note on patience with projects)

Once dry and hard,
remove from oven and allow shapes to cool completely.
Once cool, thread with ribbon or elastic thread
or...I plan to string ours with jute twine
I think I'll enjoy the earthy look of the jute,
but use whatever suits you best.
Our home smells incredible right now,
with the ornaments baking in the oven -
YUM!
If you make these, be sure to stop back and leave a comment and let me know how they turned out for you - or if you have another recipe that you use and would like to share, by all means! I love getting and trying new recipes!
By His grace,
Sarah
P.S. I'll stop back later and post pictures of the completed ornaments once they've finished baking and are ready to be hung on our tree...
